Who wrote the book of Revelation?

i commented elsewhere that some believe john the baptist might have been the author of the book of revelation.

i thought i should start a new thread on this subject, since the subject might be of interest to others.. over the centuries, several names have been put forward as the author but, as i wrote, some only think the firebrand baptist might have been the author, but no one really knows.. i have provided a scan from a book that discusses what we know of the author as well as canvassing possible candidates.. the pages are available at:.

Bible Scholar Vernon Mcgee makes some points that I believe would tend to put the Revelation as the type of book written by John.

Where's the part about "Bible Scholar"?

After completing his education (earning his A.B. from Southwestern University in Memphis, Tennessee; his B.D. from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia; his Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas

Well he is a graduate of a seminary but he has written on almost every book of the bible and I find his work quite scholarly and also he is dead now but his old broad casts were every informative. He may have views I disagree with but he is one of the scholars I like to go to for a quick explanation of a scripture, not that I am a member of his or any church.

There was a great deal of "mysticism" and "hermeticism" and "initiation" schools extant in that time period. A number of divisions within Judaism and proto-christianity existed. Opinions and practices were amazingly varied.Please do some reading and snooping around concerning this subject and you'll be quite transformed in your opinion

Interesting, perhaps, but on the other hand...

Bible Scholar Vernon Mcgee makes some points that I believe would tend to put the Revelation as the type of book written by John concerning the transformation of Jesus from the victim in the Gospels to the triumphant conquering King in Revelation, the one thing about Revelation is that it ties together many of the themes that start in Genesis and run throughout the old testament in Genesis the earth is created in Revelation it passes away.

In Genesis you have the first rebellion of Satan in Revelation Satan is destroyed.

In Genesis is the first sin in Revelation sin is done away with.

Death enters in Genesis exists in Revelation.

In Genesis you have the first Adam in Revelation the last Adam.

In Genesis you have man's city Babylon enter, in Revelation Babylon is destroyed.

In Genesis the curse is introduced in Revelation the curse is removed...Genesis tells you how the human races started Revelation tells you how the human race will wind up. To me I think that makes more likely the work of a Bible Scholar like John.

I think I read almost half the scriptues in Revelation refer to the Old Testament which your right Doug does make it a very Jewish book compared to the rest of the Gospel. Some say that John the Evangilizer, the Apostte, and John from the Isle of Patmos were three different people. The differences of style between the book of John and the Revelation make scholars think they were different people, and others do believe it was written by the Apostle who would have been an old man by that time.

I forget what the 'Babylon The Great Has Fallen' book said as to who wrote it. I am sure with their emphasis on 1914 at the time that books been long disgaurded, ancient history kind of like I am becoming.

true, there is no such title but its there unofficially for those one step to being a ministerial servant.

Thanks for sharing. By the way, how long or the length of time you been in position of responsibility?

Scott77 I was in postions of irresponsiblity for: about a year of pioneering, four years at Bethel about two as a ministerial servant, and another year as an MS/ pioneer in the congregation back home because I didn't know what else to do.

Once I was a ...pioneer, bethelite, ministereal servant, gave hour talks, and then I became inactive, called on by the elders to return, wrote a letter saying buzz off. Off to college and....

Free at last.

What is the Christian Militia?

i don't get it.. a couple of months ago i saw a video (rachael maddow) with all these people in senate, or congress, or whatever they were....praying with all the whoop-tee-do hand-holding, hand waving, head nodding, foot stomping, body rocking motions of out of control pentecostals.

so it seems apparent that the "religious right" is alive and well and totally infiltrating in high government positions.. but then, at the same time, there seems to be a consensus that there is a christian militia with intention of disrupting everything and hollering about the government taking away their rights.. i have seen videos with christians wearing their guns to church.

years ago, something like this would not be allowed.

But I am afraid the government is stirring up groups like this as a pretext for taking guns away from law abiding citizens who have a constitutional right to arm themselves for purposes of self defense not offensively. If you get a government that turns facist like Hitler and starts putting citizens in concentration camps under those conditions citizens have a right to defend themselves.

I am afraid government could be setting up some groups to stage violence as a pretext for taking away citizens rights to bear arms.

MY BROTHER-IN-LAW HAS DIED

this is one post i had always hoped i would never have to do, but after a long and brave battle, my beloved brother in law has died.

i have done a couple of threads on this in the past, so many of you know the battles he was facing.

he had been diagnosed earlier this year with myelodysplastic syndrome and the mortality rate of this disease is quite high.

Sorry for your loss Mary, the medical establishment took my dad in February and my mom in 96 and the JW's long ago, I feel the pain of this and hope you can find comfort, I have enjoyed your comments and contributions on the board.

MINNESOTA, not International Falls, but plenty cold, although the winters the last couple decades have been alot milder than those of my childhood. Back then thirty below, noooo problem.

This is the same trick that the Feds pulled at the G 20 protests back in Seattle, the Feds sent paid shills in to pose as anarchists, they come out of the peaceful crowd of protesters smashing windows and throwing rocks and eventually the Police attacked with tear gas, rubber bullets and clubs, the shills are allowed to slip through an area controlled by some of the cops and the other cops go after the peaceful protesters and beat the crap out of them, and then arrest them and put them in a data base. I doubt all the cops knew of the anarchists that were shills.

Then some of the cops went to the University of Pittsburgh and started tear gassing students on film who weren't even protesting, just walking around campus. those cops went after the students who were on their own campus and it's on film on U tube. Jason Bermas was there as a reporter and said he asked some of the supposed cops why they were in military fatigues, they stopped talking to him after he asked.
